It is Easter, the ancient springtime celebration of budding life after death. 2022 was quite the memento mori for us in Soulcrux with the death of near family members for two of us. 2023, however, is (knock on Wood - Morgaine is all bruised after meeting us) much more of a memento vivere! As Toni wrote in last month's blog, both him and I are both increasing the size of our families. It is all very exciting bringing another child into this world, and I hope you understand it is a subject quite present in my mind. I will spare you the rather metal description of childbirth, even if parts of me really want to gross you out then make you go "awww".
Soulcrux had big plans for 2022. Some of them we managed to pull through, but some of them were scrapped and some were put on hold. We are very happy with the two singles we did release! The first one, Amelie's Beautiful Colours, had its one-year anniversary just a week ago, and with the inclusion of Kasia on keys, we are looking to release a piano only version quite soon.
One of the projects put on hold was a song called A World Without Direction. I am super excited about you guys hearing it! It is heavier than the previous two, but it still has that wonderful melodic drive, which I find really important. Markus has been doing some sound design magic, which is one of the things he had visualised for our sound even before I joined in as the first member other than Markus himself. The song has just been sent off to be mixed!! We have learned to be careful about promising things too soon, so I will not tell you a release date yet. The song has a lot of tracks in the mix, so our engineer will be busy for quite some time.
I will take some time off from "the world" in May and through the summer. To make this as little noticeable as possible for you guys, we've been quite busy lately. A few weeks ago, we all met up to have a photo shoot and to hang out and just be a group together. Some of us don't live in Oslo, so we don't see the others in person as often. It was lovely as a group bonding thing, but the main reason we met up was to create content to share with you guys and promo material for A World Without Direction.
We are all very positive regarding the band’s future, and how can we not be positive at this time of year? I'm just looking out the window now and there's not a cloud in the sky and I can hear the birds starting to sing again. Soon I'll pack my winter boots away. I'm just in a very lovey mood and wish you all the best!
