Hello everyone, Toni (lead guitarist) here! As your host for this month’s blog post, I'll provide you with some updates on how things are going in the Soulcrux world.
Norway is still rather chilly, with morning frost and a wintery shroud covering the landscape. However, the days have become longer and we can finally get the vitamin-D we all so desperately need. So bring it on, Spring!
This spring also marks some milestones for me. First of all, I can’t believe I've been in the band for over a year! It was early last winter that I was introduced to our bass player at a bar by a mutual friend, who mentioned that she was in a symphonic metal band in need of a lead guitarist, and things just went from there! Thinking back on the previous year and how we’ve grown as a band, I really feel that things will only get better and more exciting. Second of all, despite the fact that we are yet to locate a permanent drummer, Soulcrux is still “growing.” My partner and I are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a little girl, who will one day address me as a “Tata” (Papa), and I still cannot believe it! Furthermore, in a fun coincidence, our lead singer is also expecting a little girl - due the same month!
As for work-related updates - we are currently finishing up the two singles that will be released in the coming months. I am thrilled to announce that one of those two singles (the one after the next) happens to be a song that I wrote back in 2015, when “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” by Nightwish was released, which served as a major influence for the song. Once these two singles are out, we will begin to focus all of our attention on our debut EP. We have already done some preliminary work on it, but it was always our intention to have a few singles out before immersing ourselves fully in the EP.
Another big recent development is that we have started rehearsing to play live! Last week Markus, Morgaine, and I moved into our rehearsal room and spent the whole session playing through our second single, “Dust”, and adjusting the guitar and bass tones. The enthusiasm was high, and it felt terrific to play with a proper set-up. The next rehearsal included Kasia on keyboards, and our lead vocalist Kristin will join soon too.
Finally, I'd like to thank everyone who follows us and supports us; it means the world to us.
So stay tuned, because the best is yet to come!
Toni
