Hello all, Morgaine here!
It is my great pleasure to wish each and every one of you a happy holiday season on behalf of the Soulcrux crew. May 2023 bring you nothing but good things!
I am the bassist and backing vocalist for our band, and the third member to join after Markus and Kristin.
I am supposed to write a little introduction of myself and, as Markus wrote about the meaning of the name ‘Soulcrux’ in the last blog post, I thought my own name might be a good place to start. This is because one of the first questions I often get asked by others, but especially fellow metal musicians is: Is Morgaine your real name?
The answer is: Yes!
My mother was really into King Arthur inspired fantasy for a while there. I also happened to be born on the darkest day of the year - the Winter Solstice - so she decided to name me after the infamous sorceress from the legends. It is merely a coincidence that I ended up looking the way I do and playing heavy metal. But some people do believe in ‘the power of a name’, so perhaps they would argue differently about the coincidence part.
Now the Winter Solstice is fast approaching once again and, for better or for worse, 2022 is drawing to its end. December can be a mixed bag of emotions for many, regardless of the holiday(s) you do or do not celebrate, but I hope you can all find some joy and light in this month of darkness. Literally, if you live up in the Frozen North like we do! (It is seriously cold and dark here - send hot chocolate and hand warmers!)
We had a good year as a band overall, although it was not without heartache and hardship. Two of our band members lost close loved ones and we experienced more than our fair share of delays in releasing our music. This includes our next single which was originally scheduled for a November/December release, but will most likely be released in January instead. However, looking at the positives, I think we did pretty well in spite of the sometimes challenging circumstances. We got our first two tracks out in 2022, gained a bunch of lovely listeners and followers, and were played on a couple of big radio stations in different countries. But most importantly of all, we came together as a band to support and comfort those of us who were struggling with grief and loss, not just as colleagues but also as friends.
I will finish this little blog post by saying that it has been a wonderful experience working with Markus and Kristin on our Soulcrux music over the course of 2022, and it has only become more wonderful since we added Toni G and a yet-to-be-officially-announced new member to our ranks.
That’s right, as Markus mentioned in the last post, our little band is growing. With that growth comes new ideas, perspectives, and inspirations which, in turn, leads to more music. We have so much music in the pipeline at the moment and we can’t wait to share it all with you over the coming year. 2023 will hopefully see us release a couple more singles and, later in the year, an EP.
And, I suppose, with five members, we can’t really call ourselves a ‘little’ band anymore!
Happy Holidays to you all,
Morgaine
