Hello and welcome to Soulcrux’s website!
As a band, we have decided to take turns giving you all a little monthly update about what we’re doing, because we are doing A LOT! After the release of Dust we have teased about exciting upcoming things on our social media, but so far we haven’t followed through. There’s been so much going on behind the scenes that we thought some explanations were in order.
We’ve been hard at work writing and making demos for several songs that will be released over the course of the next year, with two new songs scheduled for release at the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023, respectively. However, there’s been a couple of unforeseen hiccups, because life just happens sometimes.
Our first single, Amelie’s Beautiful Colours, was released shortly after my little family had temporarily moved out of our house because it was in dire need of renovation. We were only supposed to live away from home for a few months but, as building projects go, this went over schedule. Waaay over schedule.
While I was dealing with all the logistical issues of living in temporary accommodation, Soulcrux still managed to finish writing and recording our second single, Dust. Sadly, however, just before the release of Dust I lost a dear family member. As you can all imagine, in the weeks following this loss I needed to take some personal time for myself.
To complicate matters further, I also got one doozy of a cold. I fully lost my voice for several weeks, which, as my fellow singers can probably appreciate, is a setback that you simply just have to wait out. But I would like to say that I’m back on my feet now, even if it will take a bit more time before I get back to the top of my game!
My bandmates are some of the most wonderful, understanding, patient and kind people I have had the fortune of surrounding myself with. (I guess I’m ruining the image we ought to have as hard and aloof - we are a metal band, after all. But don’t we all know that metal heads really are the biggest softies behind that dark and brooding exterior?)
We did have a plan to release a song at the end of September: our bass player, Morgaine, is a HUGE Alice in Chains fan, so we had big plans for celebrating the 30th anniversary of AiC’s second album, “Dirt” (September 29th). We were going to release a symphonic metal cover of one of her favourite songs from the record and we were fairly far along in the process when the abominable cold struck… After we realised we wouldn’t be able to record my vocals in time for the anniversary, and after some careful deliberations, we have decided to hit the pause button on that cover for now. Soulcrux will instead focus on releasing more of our original material which, my voice permitting, will be filling your ears towards the end of 2022!
I just want to thank Markus, Morgaine and Toni for being patient and helpful and for keeping the steam train rolling while I took a temporary step back. Here’s to our future! *lifts mug of hot tea*
Lots of love,
Kristin, lead singer
(P.S. We have some exciting news coming later in October! So stay tuned!)
